The Xiaomi BE7000 is an affordable WiFi 7 router with impressive features, but it has a significant drawback: the version from China does not support the 6GHz radio band. While the chipset theoretically supports it, Xiaomi’s track record with software updates raises doubts about whether this feature will be enabled in the future. Despite lacking full WiFi 7 capabilities, the router does include features like the Multi-Link Operation (MLO), there’s 160MHz channel bandwidth support, and OFDMA, but not the 320MHz channel bandwidth, obviously.
The router has four 2.5GbE ports that can function as WAN or LAN, alongside a USB port, reset button, and a proprietary power connector. The design is unique, with seven external and two internal antennas, NFC for quick pairing, and good ventilation for heat management. However, it lacks wall-mounting options, and its interface is only in Chinese, requiring translation tools for setup.
Performance testing showed excellent 5GHz throughput, reaching nearly 2Gbps, and strong range, maintaining over 300Mbps at 70 feet. The signal attenuation was better compared to its competitors, especially when using the 160MHz channel width. The multi-client tests demonstrated good latency under load, though WiFi 5 devices struggled with the 4K streaming simulation. The router’s thermal management was efficient, and its dual-WAN setup enabled quick failover with minimal packet loss. However, testing of MLO yielded mixed results, possibly due to immature firmware support.
On the 2.4GHz band, the router performed well, rivaling higher-priced models at greater distances. The BE7000 also offers mesh support, similar to Asus AiMesh and TP-Link OpenMesh. The software, based on OpenWRT, includes intelligent QoS, limited security options, and basic VPN support. The mobile app offers additional features like family protection and device scheduling, filling some gaps in the web interface.
Overall, the Xiaomi BE7000 provides excellent value for its price, with standout performance and features, but its limitations in software support, language accessibility, and incomplete WiFi 7 capabilities may deter some users. This is just a summary, so head up to the full article where I go significantly more in-depth with the analysis.

January 27, 2025 at 2:12 pm #48156@laura.martinez I don’t think the RT-AX86U was a ‘high-end’ model when it was released, let alone now.. As for the comparison with the Nighthwak AX8, I did not test a Netgear router in years, so I don’t know how they perform right now. Hopefully, they fixed the software.

The Xiaomi BE7000’s 5GHz throughput and range are actually quite impressive considering its price point. It might not match the Asus RT-AC86U or the Netgear Nighthawk AX8 exactly, but it delivers solid performance for most home users. If your needs are basic like streaming, surfing, or gaming in a medium-sized home, it should serve you well. However, if you have a larger home, multiple heavy users, or need advanced features, you might find the higher-end models more suitable.

The Xiaomi BE7000 indeed lacks WiFi 7 capabilities, but it still offers decent performance at 5GHz. It may not quite match the throughput of the Asus RT-AC86U or Netgear Nighthawk AX8, but its range is fairly comparable in a typical home environment. Considering the price point, it’s good value if you don’t need the very highest speeds.

The Xiaomi BE7000 does pretty well for a mid-tier router. Its 5GHz throughput and range aren’t necessarily match for the Asus RT-AC86U or Netgear Nighthawk AX8, especially given their WiFi 6 capabilities. That being said, the BE7000 still offers stable connections and decent speeds for most average home uses. If your needs extend to intensive gaming or 4K streaming on multiple devices, you might find the higher end models more suitable.

The Xiaomi BE7000 seems like a solid choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly router that still delivers in terms of performance. The lack of support for the 6GHz radio band and only Chinese interface may be a dealbreaker for some, but the router still has enough features to make it worthwhile. Although it does lack full WiFi 7 capabilities, it does have MLO, 160MHz channel bandwidth support, and OFDMA.
The router also has a strong range and shows impressive performance in the 5GHz band, maintaining good speeds even from a distance. If you have multiple devices connected, it manages to maintain good latency which is a plus. There’s also a mobile app that compensates for some of the features lacking in the
