PCMAG takes a close look at TP-Link’s Deco BE25 BE5000 mesh system, positioning it as an affordable gateway to Wi-Fi 7 technology. Priced at $299.99 for a three-pack covering up to 6,600 square feet, this dual-band system delivers solid performance while missing some premium Wi-Fi 7 features. The white, puck-shaped nodes house four internal antennas and pack a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, though they notably lack USB ports and 6GHz band support that higher-end models offer.
The system’s straightforward setup process through TP-Link’s Deco mobile app makes it accessible for mainstream users. Each node features two auto-sensing 2.5GbE WAN/LAN ports for wired backhaul, with intuitive LED indicators showing system status. While it supports key Wi-Fi 7 technologies like Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM, the BE5000 tops out at 240MHz channel width rather than the full 320MHz capability of more expensive alternatives.
PCMAG’s testing revealed the BE5000 delivers respectable performance, with the router node hitting 1,959Mbps in close proximity tests and maintaining 628Mbps at 30 feet. Satellite nodes performed similarly well, though couldn’t match the throughput of TP-Link’s own premium Deco BE63 model. While the Deco BE5000 won’t satisfy users wanting cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, PCMAG concludes it’s a compelling option for those seeking to upgrade their home network without breaking the bank. The system’s combination of reliable performance, easy management, and reasonable price makes it particularly appealing for households without 6GHz-compatible devices. For buyers wanting full Wi-Fi 7 functionality, PCMAG still recommends the more capable (and expensive) Deco BE63 as their Editors’ Choice winner.
